Tire Ratings and Tire Safety
Load Index
This two or three-digit number is the tire's load index. (95) It is a measurement of how much weight each tire can support vertically or how much weight you can put on top of the tire. These ratings are done under laboratory conditions (dry and normally around 65 degrees) so you should keep that in mind if you are driving in temperatures and/or conditions that are significantly distant from them.
Most tires manufactured for passenger cars and light trucks indexes range from 70 to 110.

It’s not recommended that you replace tires rated by the manufacturer with lower rated tires. Also if you intend on exceeding loads the manufacturers recommended tire can handle then you should replace them accordingly. Always check with their service representatives though because there are other considerations to take into account such as front, rear end and suspension capacities that if exceeded could be damaged even if the tire load is supported.
